CUF presidential candidate promises public servants pulsating benefits

DAR ES SALAAM: PRESIDENTIAL candidate for the Civic United Front (CUF), Gombo Samandito Gombo, has pledged to offer government employees  an employment letter accompanied by a plot title deed and transport (a car) if Tanzanians grant him the mandate to become the president.

Gombo made this promise during an exclusive interview with Daily News Digital, where he outlined his priorities ahead of the general election scheduled for October 29 this year.

He said the reason behind this plan stems from observing the modest lifestyles of many civil servants, which he believes contributes to corruption among some of them.

“If you want to reduce corruption in this country, we already know how it happens — when someone needs a house or a car and they’re a government worker, they may feel forced to engage in corrupt practices to obtain those things. Or, if a family member falls sick, they may resort to corruption to afford treatment. But if the government provides these necessities for free, we will have closed the door to corruption,” said the candidate.

Gombo further added: “Once we give you the employment letter, we will also give you a title deed to a plot. The issue of housing will be resolved immediately.

There are many banks offering loans once you have your title deed and you’re a civil servant, you can go to the bank and they will build a house for you, which you can repay gradually through your salary over 15 years or more. We’re doing this because many workers cannot afford to build homes, so we want to ensure that when someone starts their job, they already have a house.”

Additionally, he reassured public servants that the CUF government would address the issue of numerous salary deductions, stating that the government would fulfill several basic needs including healthcare.

“We have removed the issue of health insurance because we will provide free healthcare services. So the money that was previously used for insurance will already be covered by the government. That’s why we say, in our government, a person will start enjoying their pension from day one of employment, not wait over 30 years to access basic needs like housing,” said the candidate.
