Olomi tied for lead after 2nd round at Uganda Ladies Open Golf
UGANDA: THE second round of the 2025 Uganda Ladies Open Golf Championship at the Lugazi Hills Golf and Country Club saw stellar performances from Tanzania’s top golfer, Neema Olomi, who continues to lead the tournament after Friday’s round.
Olomi tied for first place with Mercy Nyachama of Kenya, as both players finished the second round at +11, totalling 153 shots.
Despite a slightly challenging second round, Olomi remains in a strong position, holding on to the top spot in the 54-hole threeday tournament.
After a solid first-round performance on Thursday, where she carded a 73 to lead by four shots, Olomi posted a +9 (80) on Friday. Yet, staying in pole position on a tough course.
Olomi, representing Arusha Gymkhana Club (AGC), aimed for her second major title in Uganda.
Her first victory came in 2018 at the Lake Victoria Serena Resort & Spa, where she posted rounds of 80, 74 and 75 for a winning total of 229.
Meanwhile, Kenya’s Mercy Nyachama, who started the second round in 3rd place after an opening round of 78, emerged as the day’s best performer, shooting a +7 (75) to join Olomi at the top of the leaderboard.
The defending champion, Madina Iddi, also from Tanzania, showed determination despite a difficult round.
After a challenging firstround score of +13 (84), Iddi rebounded with a +10 (81) in the second round, bringing her total to +23 (165), 12 shots off the pace, which places her 6th overall.
Iddi, who clinched the 2024 Uganda Ladies Open title at Entebbe Club with a three-round total of 228 (78,76,74), was looking to fight back and retain her title, but things went the other way round.
Tanzania is well-represented, with Vicky Elias and Racheal Mushi also in the mix. Both players were tied at +30 (172), putting them in a tie for 9th place.
Accompanying the golfers is Yasmin Chali, the honorary secretary of the Tanzania Ladies Golf Union (TLGU), who has been a key support figure for the team during the tournament.
The leaderboard also sees strong competition from Ugandan players. Martha Babirye and Ashley Awuor are tied for 3rd place at +15 (157), while Winnie Musuya sits in 5th place with a total of 164 shots. Meron Kyomugisha is in 7th with 167.
