Youth, Boda Boda groups fund Dr Mwinyi’s nomination

ZANZIBAR: AS Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) presidential candidate for Zanzibar, Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi, prepares to collect his nomination papers tomorrow morning, August 30, 2025, various groups of supporters have come forward with financial contributions to support his candidacy.
The cost of collecting the nomination papers is 100,000/-, while candidates are required to submit 2m/- upon returning the forms.
Among those who have contributed are youth groups, drivers, mechanics, and boda boda operators from South Pemba, who handed over their donations through the Second Vice President (2VP) of Zanzibar, Hemed Suleiman Abdulla, at his Vuga office.
He commended the young people for their continued support of President Mwinyi and urged them to maintain peace and unity ahead of the October general elections.

“It is important for Zanzibar’s youth to stand with President Mwinyi at this critical time and to safeguard the peace and harmony that underpin our nation’s development,” said Hemed, warning against being misled by individuals with divisive agendas.
In addition, the Zanzibar Boda Boda and Bajaji Association (BRAZ) contributed 300,000/- towards the President’s nomination. The donation was received by Urban Region Commissioner (RC) Idrissa Kitwana Mustafa, who praised the association for its generosity.
“For boda boda riders, 300,000/- is a significant amount, equal to millions in their daily context. This shows true love, patriotism, and commitment to Dr Mwinyi’s leadership,” Kitwana said, urging members to turn out in large numbers to accompany him when he collects his forms today.
BRAZ Vice Chairman Mr Hussein Abushir Hussein said the association’s support was inspired by President Mwinyi’s decision to formalize boda boda as a recognized profession, which has provided thousands of young people with employment opportunities.
“Through his leadership, many of us have found jobs and dignity. That is why we have every reason to contribute to his nomination and to promise him our full support in the upcoming elections,” Hussein affirmed.
Youth leaders from Pemba also expressed gratitude for the President’s fulfillment of campaign promises and pledged to continue protecting the country’s peace while ensuring CCM’s victory in the October polls.
