JKCI wins award for Tanzania’s best healthcare delivery

ARUSHA: THE Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute (JKCI) has won the first-place award in improving healthcare delivery as a sign of its success in improving cardiac care services in the country.
The award was presented by the Tanzanian Vice President, Dr Philip Mpango, at a working session of the Chairmen of the Boards and Chief Executives of Public Institutions held at the Arusha International Conference Centre (AICC) in Arusha.
Speaking while presenting the award, Mpango commended the Jakaya Kikwete Heart Institute (JKCI) for the cardiac care services it provides to patients.
Speaking before the award for improving service delivery, the Registrar of the Treasury, Nehemiah Mchechu, said that the awards were looking at service improvement and the use of digital technology, customer satisfaction in accessing services, and increasing customer base, where JKCI came in first place.
The Executive Director of the Jakaya Kikwete Heart Institute (JKCI), Dr. Peter Kisenge, thanked them for the award and said that the institution will continue to provide quality services to the patients it serves and will also look into how to further expand its services.

Dr. Kisenge, who is also a specialist in cardiology, said JKCI is participating in the third working session of the Board Chairmen and Chief Executives of Public Institutions by providing specialist services in cardiac examination and treatment.
“Many leaders have many work responsibilities and do not have time to go to the hospital to check their health. JKCI experts have seen fit to follow them in this session so that during their breaks, they can come and check their heart health”.
He added, “In this testing, we are collaborating with our colleagues at AICC Hospital and the Muhimbili Orthopedic and Neurological Institute (MOI) to provide various medical and advisory services, including heart, brain, spine, organs, bones, and nerves, as well as conducting laboratory tests where they get their results within a short time.
Dr. Kisenge said that those they find with problems are initiated into treatment by giving them medication, and others are referred to JKCI or MOI for treatment due to the problems they have.
