Simba bid farewell to Ateba, joins Al Shorta FC
DAR ES SALAAM: SIMBA SC has confirmed the departure of striker Leonel Ateba, who has signed a one-year deal with Al Shorta FC in Iraq.
The 25-year-old Cameroon forward who joined Simba in August 2024 from USM Algiers, featured prominently during the 2024–25 campaign.
His league tally placed him among Simba’s more prolific scorers, ranking second tying with Ugandan international Steven Mukwala with 13 goals behind Jean Charles Ahoua who scored 16 goals.
I n continental play, he made eight appearances in the CAF Confederation Cup, contributing two goals and one assist.
The 25-year-old Cameroon forward joined Simba in August 2024 from USM Algiers on a two-year contract.

He will now continue his career in the Iraqi Premier League. A statement published on Simba’s official website revealed that the transfer was completed after both clubs and the player reached an agreement.
A t e b a had been p a r t of Simba’s pre-season training camp in Egypt ahead of the 2025/26 season, which kicks off next month.
“The club would like to thank Leonel Ateba for his contributions during his time with us and wishes him all the best in his next chapter with Al Shorta FC,” the statement read.
“We have given our full support and blessing for his move and are confident he will continue to succeed in his new journey.”
