AG, government lawyers tour gas facilities to boost legal expertise

MTWARA: ATTORNEY General (AG) Hamza Johari, accompanied by a team of government lawyers, has toured the Mnazi Bay Gas Field and Madimba Natural Gas Processing Plant in Mtwara Region to deepen their understanding of the country’s natural gas production, processing and distribution.

The visit, conducted recently, aimed at equipping the delegation with practical knowledge that will strengthen their capacity to advise the government and state institutions on legal issues related to the gas sector.

Director of Legal Services at the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC), Dr Elias Mwashiuya, said the tour was organised to expose government lawyers to realities on the ground.

“The visit by the Attorney General and government lawyers is very important. It enables them to understand natural gas activities better and make informed decisions when advising the government on legal matters,” he explained.

Mr Johari noted that the field experience would help the legal team in drafting and negotiating key contracts and agreements, ensuring that the country’s interests are safeguarded in the gas industry.
