Dar schools get major boost
DAR ES SALAAM: THE Dar es Salaam City Council has disbursed 855.7mil/- for the construction, renovation and completion of infrastructure in 14 primary schools across the city to strengthen the delivery of quality education.
The funds will be used for projects including the building of classrooms, toilets, dormitories and administrative blocks, as well as school rehabilitation works.
Dar es Salaam City Council Executive Director, Elihuruma Mabelya, said yesterday that the projects are part of ongoing government reforms in the education sector and are designed to improve the teaching and learning environment in line with the Education and Training Policy of 2014, Revised Edition 2023 and the ruling party’s 2020–2025 Election Manifesto.
Among the allocations, Chanika Primary School has received 100m/- for the completion of a dormitory and 10 toilet facilities for special needs education, while Zingiziwa has been allocated 80m/- for a special education dormitory. Nyeburu Primary School received the largest single amount of 120m/-, for classroom renovation and construction of 10 toilet units.
Other beneficiaries include Mvuleni (Kitonga), Chakenge (Msongola), Zogoal, Segerea, Mwembe, Kibadeni and Kifuru Mpya schools, which will undertake classroom construction, toilets and administration block projects. Mizengo Pinda Primary School has been allocated 14m/- for land preparation to establish a new school.
Mr Mabelya said the investment is expected to boost basic education infrastructure, particularly classrooms, toilets and other essential facilities, which will in turn create a more conducive learning atmosphere.
He called on resident and local leaders in the targeted wards to cooperate with school committees to ensure the projects are completed on time, meet required standards and reflect the true value of the funds allocated.
“The successful implementation of these projects depends on full community participation. We urge all stakeholders to take ownership so that the funds produce lasting results,” he said.
