Taarab all-night concert set for August 28

DAR ES SALAAM: An all-night taarab music concert featuring legendary and contemporary stars of the genre will be held on August 28, 2025, at Posta Grounds in Kijitonyama, with Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner Albert Chalamila expected as the guest of honor.
Speaking to journalists in Dar es Salaam today, the Director of Chocolate Princess Limited—the event’s organizers—Mboni Masimba, said the concert will be free of charge and dedicated to members and supporters of the ruling party, Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), under the theme “Wanamwambao tunatamba na Mama.”
“This is a high-class concert with a unique taarab flavor. It will kick off at 4 p.m. and run until dawn, after which we will all head to the official campaign launch,” said Mboni.
The event is expected to attract massive crowds thanks to a long lineup of taarab icons including Khadija Kopa, East Afrika Melody, Sabah Muchacho, Khadija Yusuf, Isha Ramadhani ‘Isha Mashauzi’, Mwanahawa Ally, Mzee Yusuf, Zanzibar One, and Leila Rashid.

For his part, taarab veteran Mzee Yusuf emphasized the global value of the genre, stating: “Taarab is a unique music tradition. Wherever you go in the world, when you mention taarab, people associate it with Tanzania. It is music that unites generations without discrimination. This concert is very timely.”
Meanwhile, Palina Ninje, Chairperson of the Tanzania Women Miners Association, expressed her excitement about attending the event, noting its blend of politics and entertainment.
“Politics is not just about rallies. Through taarab, youth are employed and talent is recognized. On the 28th, we will accompany President Samia Suluhu Hassan as our nation makes political history,” said Palina.
She further urged all women across the country, regardless of political affiliation, to turn out in large numbers to support President Samia through the concert and at the campaign launch.
