TBS Lake Zone Lab to enhance service delivery

MWANZA: TANZANIA Bureau of Standards (TBS) has said that the new laboratory and office building project in the Lake Zone will significantly improve service accessibility by bringing testing and administrative facilities closer to customers in the region.
TBS Chairman, Prof Othman Chande, made the statement following a recent inspection of the project’s progress.
“By establishing this facility in the Lake Zone, we’re making it easier and faster for customers to access our testing and regulatory services,” he said.
Prof Chande instructed the contractor, CJIC from China, to speed up construction to ensure the project is completed on time and begins serving the public.
“After inspection, we’re satisfied with the work but urge the contractor to speed up to meet the deadline,” Prof Chande said.
He added that building TBS labs and offices nationwide aligns with President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s directive to bring services closer to the people.
Meanwhile, TBS Director General Dr Ashura Katunzi stated that the building’s completion will significantly reduce the time and high costs of transporting samples to Dar es Salaam for testing.
“Currently, samples are sent to Dar es Salaam, but the goal is to establish regional laboratories. Construction in Dodoma is 84 per cent complete and we expect to begin work in Arusha soon,” Dr Katunzi explained.
This development is expected to reduce the time and costs associated with transporting samples to distant locations, ensuring more efficient and timely service delivery for the Lake Zone community.
