Experts envision a solution to back pain complications

DAR ES SALAAM:  TANZANIANS have been encouraged to embrace correct workstation posture, regular micro-breaks, and simple stretches to enhance their physical and mental health.

This extends further to maintaining good posture in standing, walking, and sitting in order to eradicate persistent back pain that many people experience in their daily lives.

Briefing the Daily News today, August 20, 2025, in Dar es Salaam, REVIVE Physiotherapy Limited Director Dr Lekhani Pashine says simple things matter a lot when it comes to improving one’s health.

“Just recently, we had an engaging staff workshop on posture and musculoskeletal injury prevention at Meticulous Insurance Company, which I spearheaded as part of our programs.

“As multinational corporations intensify their commitment to workplace health, REVIVE Physiotherapy is emerging as a key collaborator in promoting Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) practices across the country.

“These collaborations encompass workplace ergonomic assessments, staff workshops on posture and musculoskeletal injury prevention, and tailored exercise routines aimed at reducing lifestyle and posture related to sedentary lifestyles, and enhancing productivity.

“It was encouraging to see that all employees who participated in awareness campaigns at Meticulous Insurance focused on lifting techniques and spine protection—crucial in industrial and operational settings,” she says.

Dr Pashine adds: “Physiotherapy is not only about rehabilitation after an injury. It is also about prevention, education, and building healthier work cultures.

“Our collaboration with multinational companies allows us to integrate health and safety into daily routines, reducing leaves on account of physical sickness and improving long-term productivity.”

On his part, Meticulous Insurance Chief Executive Officer Mr Sundar Nayak narrates that the initiatives are designed to complement existing HSE policies by focusing on preventive care.

“Critical mechanisms such as posture correction, musculoskeletal injury prevention, and workplace ergonomics form a central part of the training,” he says.

Meanwhile, industry observers note that musculoskeletal problems and workplace-related stress are among the leading causes of absenteeism and reduced productivity.

As Tanzania’s workforce continues to expand, initiatives like those led by REVIVE Physiotherapy underscore the importance of linking business growth with employee health, and it has been thriving for this purpose since its establishment in 2018, with its two clinics located at  Ocean Road and Masaki.
