SA envoy inspires women leaders to be active, brave

COAST REGION: SOUTH African High Commissioner to Tanzania, Noluthando Mayende-Sibiya has called on women leaders to remain courageous and steadfast in fulfilling their leadership responsibilities.

Speaking as the guest of honour at the closing ceremony of a one-week training on Sustainable and Inclusive Women Leadership and Management (SIWOLEMA) at the Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Leadership School (MJNLS) in Kibaha Municipal Council, Coast Region recently, the envoy commended the participants for their commitment to leadership development.

The training brought together 50 women leaders from various institutions across Tanzania.

“In our African history, many women fearlessly led the fight for liberation,” said the High Commissioner. “Today, we continue to witness women excelling in leadership whenever they are given the opportunity. Evidence shows that women in leadership roles tend to be more ethical and dedicated. I urge you to carry this spirit forward and use it to build our nations.”

She said that the legacy of women’s contributions to Africa’s liberation struggles should inspire today’s generation of female leaders to lead with integrity and courage.

On her part, MJNLS Principal, Professor Marcellina Chijoriga said that the school has been receiving positive feedback from institutions about women who have undergone the training.

“We are encouraged to see that many women are applying what they have learned through the SIWOLEMA programme,” she said. “We’ve also seen leaders from Southern African countries, including South Africa, Namibia and Zambia benefit from these training programmes , with some even promoted afterwards.”

This marks the third women’s leadership and management training held at MJNLS, aimed at enhancing the leadership skills and capacities of women in senior positions.

The training covered a range of topics including nationalism, national security, protocol and patriotism.

The Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Leadership School, inaugurated in 2022, is owned and operated by six liberation movement political parties: CCM (Tanzania), ZANU-PF (Zimbabwe), ANC (South Africa), MPLA (Angola), SWAPO (Namibia) and FRELIMO (Mozambique).
