SADC experts hand over, inspect the performance of weather equipment at TMA

DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA Meteorological Authority (TMA) has received a team of experts from the Southern African Development Community Climate Services Centre (SADC CSC), who are coordinating the implementation of the SADC project aimed at improving climate services for Member States under the “Intra-ACP Climate Services and Related Applications (ClimSA)” programme.

The experts made this visit at the TMA offices in Ubungo Plaza, Dar es Salaam, led by the project supervisor, Surekha Ramessur, with the main purpose of handing over and inspecting the performance of equipment donated by the SADC CSC to Tanzania through TMA under the ClimSA project.

The donated equipment included a Client Workstation for ClimSA Station and Early Warning System, two servers, and data rescue equipment for storing meteorological data.

The equipment was received by the Director of Infrastructure and Technical Services, Dr Pascal Waniha, on behalf of the Acting Director General.

Speaking after receiving the equipment, Dr Waniha expressed gratitude to the SADC Secretariat for continuing to support member states through regional programmes that enhance climate services.

On her part, head of the visiting team, Surekha Ramessur, commended TMA for the great strides made in the provision of meteorological services and assured that the Centre will continue to collaborate with TMA through regional efforts to improve climate services for SADC member states.

Moreover, the experts had the opportunity to witness various activities conducted by TMA, including visiting the construction site of the Eastern Zone Office and the Tsunami Early Warning Centre.

The Intra-ACP Climate Services and Related Applications (ClimSA) project is being implemented in SADC member states, including Tanzania, with funding from the European Development Fund (EDF).

The project aims to further strengthen the capacity of SADC member states in providing meteorological and weather forecasting services, particularly in issuing early warnings for severe weather conditions.
