Tanzanian sports sector hits a golden era with massive investment

DAR ES SALAAM: MASSIVE investments made by the Tanzanian government under Samia Suluhu Hassan in the sports sector have positioned Tanzania as a key sports hub in Africa, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Gerson Msigwa, has disclosed.
Speaking in Dar es Salaam during the opening of the Second Meeting of the African Union Ministers of Sports, Fourth Region (Experts’ Level), Msigwa highlighted that the vision of President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan has created a favorable environment for the development of sports in the country.
“This investment sends a strong message about the genuine commitment of the Sixth Phase Government to promote sports as a source of employment and income for our youth,” Msigwa said.

The meeting focuses on discussing regional strategies to advance sports development, especially for youth from the 14 member countries of the region, aiming to benefit them through talent development, employment opportunities, and economic growth.
Msigwa explained that experts have presented a draft Sports Development Strategy that outlines effective ways to push forward the sports agenda, including organizing youth competitions and enabling their participation in international events.
Meanwhile, Boniface Tamba, the Director of Sports Development, stated that the meeting is scheduled to last three days and is divided into four main phases, with the first phase involving an experts’ session.
