Tanzania cricket makes historic debut at FEASSA 2025

DAR ES SALAAM: FOR the first time in history, Tanzania is participating in the Federation of East African Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) Games, marking a milestone for the Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA) and school sports nationwide.

The 2025 FEASSA Games are currently underway in Kakamega, Kenya, with Tanzanian boys and girls’ teams already making their presence felt on the regional stage.

TCA Chairman, Balakrishan Sreekumar, expressed his delight in Dar es Salaam yesterday, celebrating the hard work that led to Tanzania’s inclusion in the tournament.

“We have been working tirelessly to secure Tanzania’s participation in FEASSA. I am happy to announce that we have succeeded and our boys and girls are proudly representing our nation with passion,” said Sreekumar.

The under-14 teams, accompanied by two dedicated coaches, have already made headlines, especially after the boys’ team secured a strong victory over Kenya in their opening match, signalling Tanzania’s readiness and competitive spirit.

“This is a proud moment not just for Tanzanian cricket but for youth sports across the country. We are now standing shoulder to shoulder with peers from Kenya, Uganda and other East African nations,” Sreekumar added.

Kanu Rathod, UK-based Lader of the Tanzania Cricket Legends Group shared his excitement about the historic participation.

“Excellent news! I believe FEASSA Cricket was initiated by the Ugandan Cricket Board. Tanzania’s quick entry into the tournament under Sreekumar’s leadership is inspiring. Tanzania is already making headlines in its very first FEASSA match. Congratulations to the teams!” he said.

Yesterday, the Tanzanian girls faced off against Kenya, while the boys played against Uganda in intense matchups.

Today, Tanzania’s girls are set to play Uganda as the teams prepare for a rest day on Sunday, with play resuming on Monday.
