Four game wardens in custody over 20-year farmer’s death

GEITA: POLICE in Geita region have arrested four game wardens for allegedly killing Eziboni Fikiri (20) who was a farmer in Msonga village of Bukombe District.

The Geita Acting Regional Police Commander, Mr Adamu Maro, told reporters that the incident occurred on August 13, this year at around 6:00 am in the Kigosi Game Reserve, in Bukombe District, during a special operation by wildlife rangers aimed at apprehending individuals engaged in illegal activities within the reserve, including deforestation.

Commander Maro added that all the suspect officers are currently in custody as investigations continue to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.

As of August 14, 2025, the body of the deceased was being preserved at Bukombe District Hospital, pending a professional postmortem. Police have called on the public to remain calm and patient as investigation on the matter continues, assuring that all necessary measures will be taken in accordance with the law.

“The suspects are still being interrogated, and once the investigation is complete, they will be brought before a court of law as soon as possible,” Mr Maro said.
