Samia: Embrace sports

DAR ES SALAAM: PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has issued directives to enhance sports development across the country, particularly encouraging increased participation from ministries, government institutions and the armed forces.
The President made the directives yesterday at the State House in Dar es Salaam after receiving a prestigious honour from the International Military Sports Council (CISM).
She was awarded the CISM Grand Cordon and named an Honorary Member, which is the Council’s highest order of merit, in recognition of her exceptional support for sports initiatives.
During the event, President Samia directed the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports to ensure that government officials actively participate in the Inter-Ministerial and Inter Parastatal Games.
“These games are not just for recreation; they are an important tool in our fight against non-communicable diseases,” she stated, emphasising the role of sports in promoting national health and well-being.
Additionally, the President urged the Tanzania People’s Defence Force (TPDF) to enhance participation in the sporting events they organise, encouraging the involvement of other forces.
“I call upon the TPDF to ensure that other forces, such as the Prisons Service and the Fire and Rescue Force, are also fully engaged in these games. Sports should unite us all to foster discipline and build strength,” she added.

This event would feature a cross-country race, boxing and basketball, showcasing the excellence of Tanzanian athletes who have recently excelled in global competitions.
President Samia stated that the award she received from CISM is not just hers but belongs to all Tanzanians.
She underscored that this recognition should inspire efforts to promote sports throughout the country, both within the armed forces and beyond, in order to enhance Tanzania’s reputation in the sporting world.
