CAF fines Kenya, Zambia and Morocco

EGYPT: THE Confederation of African Football (CAF) has handed out disciplinary sanctions to three national football federations Kenya, Zambia and Morocco following various breaches of regulations during the on-going 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

The CAF Disciplinary Board convened to review incidents that occurred during the early stages of the tournament and issued fines and warnings to the implicated parties.

The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) received the heaviest penalty, being fined USD 50,000 (128m/-) for multiple safety and security breaches. Zambia and Morocco were each fined USD 5,000 (12.8m/-). Of Morocco’s fine, USD 2,500 (6.4m/-) is suspended due to the inappropriate conduct of their players during the same match against Kenya.

This was announced yesterday on the official CAF website, which stated:

The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) was found guilty of multiple safety and security breaches during Kenya’s match against Morocco at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani. In response, CAF issued a USD 50,000 (128m/-) fine and a stern warning that further violations could result in Kenya’s national team matches being relocated to an alternative venue.

CAF has advised Kenya to enhance its match-day operations by deploying adequate security personnel and strictly observing road closure protocols to ensure the safety of fans and players.

Meanwhile, the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) received a USD 5,000 (12.8m/-) fine for breaching CAF’s media regulations by failing to present its head coach at the mandatory press conference before their match against the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Board determined that Zambia had violated protocol and imposed the full penalty.

Morocco received a USD 5,000 (12.8m/-) fine, with USD 2,500 (6.4m/-) suspended on the condition that no similar offenses occur for the remainder of the tournament.

CAF insisted all fines must be paid within 60 days of official notification.
