Hospital acquires controlling stake in Regency Medical Centre

ZANZIBAR: ZANZIBAR’S Ampola Tasakhtaa Hospital has taken a controlling 60 per cent stake in Regency Medical Centre in Dar es Salaam, forming a strategic alliance between two of Tanzania’s leading private healthcare providers.

The acquisition, announced in Zanzibar, is intended to improve healthcare quality across the country by combining resources and expertise to provide patientcentered services.

“This milestone represents more than a business transaction. It is a commitment to transforming healthcare in Tanzania,” said Abdulla Salim Turky, Chief Executive Officer of the Ampola Tasakhtaa Hospital.

“By joining forces, we can elevate the standard of care and expand access for patients in Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar, and the wider region.”

Dr Beejesh Kanabar, Director of Regency Medical Centre, welcomed the partnership, saying it supports national priorities to strengthen healthcare.

“As private sector players, we stand fully behind the efforts of President Samia Suluhu Hassan and President Hussein Mwinyi to make healthcare more accessible and efficient,” he said.

He added that Tanzanians deserve world-class medical services in both public and private settings, and that the alliance aims to complement — not compete with — government hospitals.

The move is expected to pave the way for the introduction of advanced medical technologies, specialist training for healthcare workers, and expanded outreach services for communities in need.
