Innovative digital platform launched to offer unique prize opportunities

DAR ES SALAAM: AS the government moves to ensure that research and innovation become key drivers of economic and social development, some Tanzanian innovators have embraced the vision by launching a new digital platform called Piku.

The platform operates in an auction-style format, allowing Tanzanians to place unique low bids for a chance to win valuable items.

Speaking at the launch, Piku’s Business Operations Manager, Sia Malewas, explained that Piku, has been granted a special licence by the Gaming Board of Tanzania (GBT).

“The innovators behind this platform wanted to create something different— something that stimulates the mind, brings excitement and offers Tanzanians a unique way to win rewards,” Malewas added.

Piku’s Information and Communications Manager, Barnabas Mbunda, said the platform is open to all youth and adults aged 18 and above. Participants can download the Piku mobile application on Android devices via the Play Store.

“Unlike other platforms or traditional auctions, Piku operates in a completely unique way. The winner is the one who placed the lowest unique bid, giving every participant a special chance to win valuable products at minimal cost,” Mbunda said.

A Gaming Board inspector, Lucy Katamba, confirmed that the platform had been operated fairly and transparently. She added that the gaming industry is growing and contributing to economic development.
