54bn/- TELMS Project launched to enhance technological education

DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA, in collaboration with Italy through the Technology Enhanced Learning Mentoring Support TELMS II Project, is committed to advancing reforms in technical education by strengthening technical education institutions to promote sustainable development in the country.

The TELMS II Project is being implemented with a budget of about 54bn/-.

Speaking during a joint committee meeting, the Acting Director of the Department of Higher Education Dr Kenneth Hosea stated that the funds are a concessional loan from the government of Italy to the government of Tanzania through formal agreements.

Explaining the importance of the five-year project (2025–2030) he noted that it will support the implementation of the education and training Policy, which aims to foster technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

Additionally, he said that it will also strengthen the development of sustainable energy and environmental conservation.

The Project Coordinator, who is also the Director of Technical and Vocational Education and Training at the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Dr Fredrick Salukele noted that the beneficiaries of the TELMS II Project are Mbeya University of Science and Technology (MUST), Arusha Technical College (ATC), Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology (DIT), and Karume Institute of Science and Technology (KIST).

On his part, the Italian Ambassador to Tanzania, Giuseppe Sean Coppola, said that his government is proud of the positive diplomatic relations with Tanzania, especially through collaboration in education projects aimed at equipping Tanzanians with skills and knowledge for national development.
