932 buses underway to boost DART’s operations

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Dar Rapid Transit Agency (DART) has begun the process of bringing 932 new buses into the country, expected to be completed by October this year.

Speaking to journalists in Dar es Salaam, DART Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Athumani Kihamia, said the buses will arrive in phases, with the first batch of 99 buses expected to arrive in mid-August.

The four companies contracted to supply the buses are Mofat Company Limited, Metro City Link Ltd, YK City Link Ltd, and TransDar. The first three companies are Tanzanian.

Mofat Company Limited will deliver 255 trunk buses, Metro City Link will provide 334 feeder buses operating on three routes, YK City Link will bring 166 feeder buses for six routes, and TransDar will supply 177 buses to replace the interim service provider.

Dr. Kihamia also revealed that 150 buses from Mofat have already been loaded onto a ship and are expected to arrive at Dar es Salaam Port on August 15.

Furthermore, Dr. Kihamia warned private service providers against releasing false information regarding bus procurement and management, emphasizing that DART is the sole authority managing the project.

He urged journalists to verify their information with DART before publishing any news related to the BRT bus project.

The Bus Rapid Transit project is being implemented in four phases: from Kimara to Kivukoni, Mbagala to Gerezani, Gongo la Mboto to Gerezani, and Tegeta to Morocco.
