Kabudi appoints new TSN board members
DAR ES SALAAM: MINISTER for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Professor Palamagamba Kabudi, has appointed six new members to the Board of Directors of Tanzania Standard (Newspapers) Limited (TSN).
According to a statement released yesterday by the ministry’s Communication Department, the newly appointed board members include Dr Chisuligwe Khadudu, a Lecturer at the National Institute of Transport (NIT), Ms Joseline Kamuhanda, Head of Marketing at CRDB Bank and Dr Ayoub Rioba, Director General of Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation (TBC).
Other appointees are Ms Elimbora Muro, former Chief Internal Auditor at the Tanzania Investment Centre (TIC), Mr Deogratius Kwiyukwa, former Director of Business Development and Marketing at the Tanzania Commercial Bank (TCB) and Ms Zamaradi Kawawa, Assistant Director of the Information Department (Maelezo) at the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports. The appointments of new board members became effective on July 22nd, this year.
The Board is chaired by former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Said Mwema, who was appointed by President Samia Suluhu Hassan in November 2024.
In January this year, the government reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening TSN’s role as a vital communication platform, ensuring it remains a reliable source of information for the public.
Representing Prof Kabudi during a recent TSN workers’ council meeting, the ministry’s Deputy Permanent Secretary, Mr Methusela Ntonda said the government is dedicated to supporting the state-owned media company.
“TSN is a crucial tool for the government, acting as a communication channel between the government and citizens, as well as among the citizens themselves. Effective communication is essential, especially now, as people need to understand various national issues,” Mr Ntonda said.

He added that the sixthphase government highly values journalists’ contributions and is committed to creating an enabling environment for them to perform their duties without hindrance.
During the same event, TSN Board Chairperson, retired Inspector General of Police Saidi Mwema, expressed gratitude to President Samia for entrusting him with the board leadership.
He urged TSN staff and management to foster unity and align their efforts with President Samia’s “4Rs” philosophy: Reconciliation, Resilience, Reform and Rebuild.
TSN Managing Director Ms Asha Dachi expressed optimism about transforming the media outlet despite existing challenges.
She stressed the importance of leveraging current resources and embracing the shift toward competitive digital platforms to drive progress.
“I believe these meetings will continue to inspire the development of strategies that enhance TSN’s performance and improve the reputation of both the company and our society. Ultimately, our productivity remains essential to the community,” Ms Dachi said.
