Mwinyi appeals for support in eye services
ZANZIBAR President Dr Hussein Mwinyi has said that Zanzibar has many patients with eye related complications, stressing importance of support from various institutions within and outside the country.
The president made the remark during his talks with a team of medical doctors from ‘Association Vission-for-Puma in Germany which was led by Dr Frank Klemm who visited the State House after completing the exercise of providing eye services at KMKM Kibweni Hospital in Mjini Mgharibi Region in Unguja.
Hesaid besides Zanzibar having an eye hospital at its Mnazi Mmoja Hospital, it was still facing a shortage of important equipment and specialists which are crucial in ensuring provision of better services.
President Mwinyi commended the team of medical doctors for the great work it has done to serve Zanzibaris.
He said the government will work on the possibilities of strengthening the cooperation with t Association Vission-for-Puma in the near future.
On his part the team leader Dr Klemm commended the cooperation accorded to them by leaders from Anti-Smuggling Squad and the doctors from KMKM Kibweni Hospital.
He said a total of 100 patients received various services during the clinic which was held for 12 days while others were provided with spectacles.
Meanwhile, President Mwinyi has expressed gratitude to the Tanzania National Service for starting to work on land disputes facing Tanzania People’s Defense Forces (TPDF) in Zanzibar.
Dr Mwinyi expressed the gratititude when he held talks with Minister for Defense and National Service Innocent Bashungwa who visited the President to introduce himself.
He said that land disputes which involve TPDC and civilians have been contributed by increasing number of people living in disputed areas.
Dr Mwinyi said he has been pleased with the efforts which have been started to be taken by the ministry to find out solutions of the disputes.
He assures Minister Bashugwa that his government will cooperate with him for successful execution of defense issues.
