Mwinjuma backs Taifa Stars jerseys as office wear
DAR ES SALAAM: In a remarkable initiative aimed at promoting national pride, Deputy Minister of Culture, Arts, and Sports, Hamis Mwinjuma, has called for the adoption of Taifa Stars jerseys, as official office attire.
This appeal coincides with the launch of an online sales system for these jerseys by the National Bank of Commerce (NBC) in collaboration with Vodacom Tanzania and Sandaland Company.
The unveiling of the e-commerce platform took place today in Dar es Salaam, highlighting a concerted effort to enhance the accessibility of National Stars jerseys to fans and the general public, especially in light of the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN) for local players.
During his address, Mr Mwinjuma emphasised the importance of unity and national identity, particularly as the country approaches the general elections.
Equally, he urged heads of institutions nationwide to consider designating specific days where employees can wear the national jerseys as part of their work attire, thereby fostering a sense of camaraderie and support for the national team.

“This initiative is crucial for building a unified nation. Sports have the potential to bring us together, and wearing the Taifa Stars jerseys can serve as a symbol of our collective pride,” Mwinjuma said.
He encouraged organizations not only to allow this practice but also to invest in purchasing jerseys for their employees through the newly established digital platform.
Supporting Mwinjuma’s initiative, Mr Mangire Kibanda, the Head of Transactions at NBC, outlined the features of the new e-commerce platform, which simplifies the process of purchasing jerseys without the need to visit retail outlets.
“We invite businesses interested in selling Taifa Stars jerseys to make payments by depositing funds into Sandaland’s account at NBC or visiting our branches and agents across the country. Our digital services, including NBC Kiganjani and NBC Connect, further facilitate quick and efficient purchases, especially in the lead-up to the CHAN tournament,” Kibanda explained.
Additionally, he encouraged Tanzanians to open business accounts with NBC, allowing them to utilize e-commerce services to make payments via international credit cards such as VISA and Mastercard.
The collaborative effort not only aims to bolster sales of the Taifa Stars jerseys but also aspires to cultivate a deeper sense of community and national pride as the country prepares for significant sporting events.
