TZ swimmers set for World Aquatics Championships

DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA will be represented by swimmers Collins Saliboko and Michael Joseph at the prestigious World Aquatics Championships, scheduled to take place in Singapore from July 27 to August 3.
The duo has been undergoing intensive preparations at a high-performance training camp in South Africa, aimed at sharpening their skills and boosting their performance ahead of the global meet.

Amina Mfaume, Director of Competitions at the Tanzania Swimming Association (TSA), confirmed in Dar es Salaam yesterday that the athletes will depart for Singapore on July 24, fully prepared for the challenge.
“Our swimmers are working hard in camp and we as an association are doing everything possible to support their preparation. They are motivated, focused and determined to represent Tanzania with pride,” she said.
“These championships are extremely competitive. Our main goal is to help the athletes lower their times, build confidence and gain valuable experience competing against the world’s best,” she added.
Mfaume noted that Tanzania’s participation in the World Aquatics Championships is part of TSA’s broader strategy to develop swimming into a strong competitive sport nationwide.
She said the association is committed to giving athletes exposure to international competitions and access to elite training opportunities.
Meanwhile, Mfaume announced that TSA is preparing for the World Youth Swimming Championships, slated for August 14 to 24, 2025.

“We are currently engaging with stakeholders and potential sponsors to secure support for Tanzania’s participation in upcoming international events, particularly those targeting youth development.
“We’re reaching out to partners who share our vision. International exposure is vital to nurturing swimming talent in Tanzania. We want to give our young swimmers every opportunity to compete, improve and be inspired,” she said.
Mfaume concluded by stressing the importance of long-term investment in swimming, saying their goal is to build a strong foundation that will support Tanzanian swimmers in their pursuit of excellence on both the continental and global stages.
