Muhimbili reforms for Vision 2050

DAR ES SALAAM: MUHIMBILI National Hospital (MNH) is restructuring its systems and infrastructure in order to implement the aspirations of the newly launched Vision 2050.

MNH Executive Director Dr Delilah Kimambo said that around 1.2 tri/- will be invested to transform the national hospital into a regional hub for specialised healthcare services that meet both domestic and international needs, attract medical tourism and promote the appropriate use of modern technologies such as artificial intelligence.

Speaking in Dar es Salaam yesterday while congratulating President Samia Suluhu Hassan, following the launch of the Vision 2050, Dr Kimambo said that the hospital’s plans and strategies align with the aspirations of the newly launched vision.

According to the vision, the country aspires universal healthcare coverage with strong financing mechanisms, prioritising women, children, older persons and people with disabilities.

It also eyes a nation of resilient individuals and communities committed to health promotion, disease prevention and the maintenance of healthy lifestyles, with the capacity to mitigate the impact of pandemics and environmental and climate related health risks.

Other aspirations include a healthy society where every individual, especially children, women, people with disabilities and older persons, enjoys affordable, comprehensive and equitable access to quality healthcare.

The country also aspires a society where all individuals, especially children, thrive on nutritious foods and are safeguarded from harmful substances and a regional hub for the manufacturing of healthcare and food products, ensuring equitable access to high-quality but affordable healthcare goods and nutritional commodities.

Others are a leading hub for super-specialised medical services, catering to local needs and attracting medical tourism and a healthy society that leverages modern technologies, including artificial intelligence, to predict and manage disease patterns effectively.
