Upgraded DAWASA plans to connect water to 72,000 new customers

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Dar es Salaam Water and Sanitation Authority (DAWASA) plans to connect 72,000 new customers to clean and safe water services as the authority completes major upgrading of its Ruvu Juu plant.

In his reaction, the Minister for Water,Jumaa  Aweso, has called on DAWASA to ensure a reliable water supply for the residents of Dar es Salaam and Coast regions as both fall under the jurisdiction of the authority.

Speaking after inspecting the maintenance works at the Ruvu Juu water treatment plant, Minister Aweso expressed satisfaction with the improvements made by DAWASA

in upgrading the plant’s infrastructure. He commended the authority for implementing his earlier directives aimed at improving water services.

“The current situation is promising. The infrastructure has been upgraded and the plant is operating efficiently. What remains now is to ensure this service reaches the people on time,” said Minister Aweso.

In a related development, the Minister issued directives regarding preparations for the upcoming dry season, emphasizing the importance of protecting the Ruvu River water source. He urged relevant authorities to collaborate with local government leaders in fulfilling this responsibility to ensure the safety and sustainability of water services.

In retrospect, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Water, Engineer Mwajuma Waziri, applauded DAWASA’s efforts and stressed the importance of the authority listening to and addressing public concerns promptly.

On his part, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of DAWASA, Engineer Mkama Bwire, announced that in the 2025/2026 financial year, DAWASA plans to connect approximately 72,000 new customers to clean and safe water services.
