TBS urges stakeholders to utilise standardisation services

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) has urged stakeholders to use its affordable system certification services, which reduce reliance on costly foreign providers, ensure compliance and enhance quality and competitiveness.

This was stated yesterday by TBS Public Relations and Marketing Manager, Ms Gladness Kaseka, at the ongoing 49th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair along Kilwa Road in Dar es Salaam.

Ms Kaseka called on ministries, government offices, public institutions and private sector players to have full confidence in TBS’s ability to provide these services, which were previously sourced from foreign companies.

“This service is available at TBS and we are fully certified to provide it locally,” Ms Kaseka emphasised.

She also noted that TBS offers metrology (measurement calibration) services for hospitals, construction projects and manufacturing industries to ensure the accuracy of their measuring equipment.

She explained that some clients have complained of receiving conflicting diagnoses from different facilities, which undermines trust in service providers.

“TBS is here to verify the accuracy of measuring instruments used in hospitals. We encourage hospitals, construction project managers and manufacturers to use our metrology services,” she said.

Ms Kaseka added that TBS also calibrates laboratory equipment, helping hospitals to deliver accurate diagnoses and industries to ensure correct raw material usage in production.

She clarified that these services are provided directly at clients’ workplaces, whether hospitals or factories, and are delivered comprehensively and professionally.

Regarding public response, Kaseka noted that uptake has been strong, but TBS encourages all healthcare facilities, including small clinics, to seek this service, as patients rely on accurate test results.

She stressed that TBS does not want hospitals to lose clients due to unreliable results, considering the significant investments and employment opportunities they provide.

She concluded by saying that TBS has already begun visiting hospitals to offer calibration services and called on those not yet reached to proactively contact TBS for support.
