Dar Boxing Derby set to electrify fans

DAR ES SALAAM: BOXING fans are in for an unforgettable night as the Dar es Salaam Boxing Derby returns on July 26, promising explosive action, fierce rivalries and a celebration of local talent at the iconic Leaders Club grounds.

Boxing promoter, Sulemani Semunyu, officially unveiled the event during a vibrant press gathering at Mabibo grounds, declaring this year’s edition a turning point in the growth and inclusivity of Tanzanian boxing.

“This is more than just a boxing event—it’s a platform for local fighters to shine on a national stage as we’re giving boxers like Mfaume Mfaume, Karim Mandonga ‘Mtu Kazi’, Shaban Kaoneka and others the opportunity to perform in front of a large crowd, gain fans and even catch the eye of international scouts,” said Semunyu.

With ticket prices starting at just 5,000/-, Semunyu emphasised the event’s accessibility and its role in breaking barriers within the sport.

“Boxing is not just for the elite. This Derby is for everyone. We’re opening the doors so more Tanzanians can enjoy live sports, support their local heroes and be part of something exciting and unifying,” he said.

Beyond the ring, the Dar Boxing Derby is also expected to deliver economic impact, drawing in vendors, media, sponsors and tourists.

“Events of this magnitude inject life into the local economy. Food vendors, small businesses and service providers all benefit. It’s a ripple effect—opportunities are created, incomes rise and the sport itself gets a massive boost in visibility,” he added.

The fight card is stacked with action from start to finish. Featured bouts include Ibrahim Class vs Nassib Ramadhan, Said Bwanga vs Loren Japhet, Hamad Furahisha vs Japhate Herman, Adam Peter vs Abdallah Ponda, Halid Karama vs Abdurazaq Hamis and Vigulo Shafii vs Idd Pazi.

While in a proud nod to women’s boxing, the Derby also showcases two exciting female matchups, Sarah Alex vs Stumai Muki and Debora Mwenda vs Asia Meshack.
