TRA commended for dedication, professionalism

ARUSHA: THE Commissioner General of the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), Mr. Yusuph Mwenda, praised the dedication and professionalism of TRA staff during the authority’s performance evaluation meeting today, July 8, 2025.

In a report read by the Finance Minister, Mwigulu Nchembam, the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) collected 26.86tri/- , which is 91.3 percent of the annual target.

The amount is more than half of the total 45.07 tri/- in revenue Tanzania earned in the 2024/25 fiscal year.

The Annual TRA Performance Evaluation Meeting convened at the Arusha International Conference Centre (AICC) was attended by several government officials, with Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa serving as the chief guest.

In his address, Commissioner Mwenda emphasized that TRA’s achievements are a result of the hard work and commitment of its employees, many of whom work long hours under difficult conditions to ensure that the nation collects the revenue it is due.

“TRA’s success doesn’t come by chance. Some people work day and night to get the job done. There are many of them, but leading the way are the staff of the Tanzania Revenue Authority. I know we are not very popular, and we don’t expect to be. What we must do is the right work, regardless of the criticism,” Mwenda stated.

He further noted that, despite complaints and negative views from some members of the public, TRA employees have remained committed to delivering services efficiently, supporting business growth in the country, and ensuring that vital revenue for national development is collected in accordance with the law.

The evaluation meeting aims to review TRA’s performance over the past year, highlight achievements, and formulate strategies for improving operational effectiveness in the coming year.
