Upskilling local talent key to job growth

DAR ES SALAAM: DESMI Africa has initiated localised training programmes aimed at upskilling engineers, technicians and service personnel part of a broader effort to promote long-term employment and strengthen technical capacity across the region.
Headquartered in Odense, Denmark, Desmi Ro-Clean through its African subsidiary, Desmi Africa specialises in equipment and solutions for preventing, controlling and cleaning up oil spills, helping protect marine and freshwater environments from pollution.
Operations Manager of Desmi Africa, Mr Philbertus Mujuni said these efforts not only enhance the quality and efficiency of local service delivery but also contribute to long-term employment, selfreliance and technical empowerment in the region, aligning closely with broader goals of sustainable development and industrial growth.
“We believe that sustainable development goes hand in hand with knowledge transfer and skills training, our investment in Tanzania is not just about infrastructure, it’s about people, we are committed to empowering local teams to deliver world-class service and contribute meaningfully to the region’s growth,” he stated.

The country offers a well-equipped port, strong infrastructure, a solid education system for developing technical skills and the security and stability needed for long-term investment which is why we’ve been here for 10 years,” Desmi has been operating in Tanzania for over 10 years, with Tanzania serving as its Africa headquarters overseeing operations in more than 20 Sub-Saharan countries and has recently established an additional subsidiary in Nigeria.

The African expansion supports Desmi’s goal of being closer to customers, responding swiftly to market needs and fostering long-term industrial and environmental progress.
Positioned as a key hub for Sub-Saharan operations, he said the Tanzania office serves various industries including marine and offshore, oil and gas, pipeline operators and ports & harbours industry to name a few.
It houses an expert technical team, service support, guaranteed supply of spare parts and provides hands-on customer support, reducing downtime and optimising operations.
Responding to concerns about oil spill risks, Desmi Africa’s Operations Manager, Mr Philbertus Mujuni, said oil spills in seas, rivers, or lakes severely harm aquatic ecosystems killing or displacing plants and animals and potentially causing permanent environmental damage.
“Preventing oil spills requires proper equipment, which is why Desmi has introduced technology to stop spills from spreading and harming the environment,” he said.
