Speaking at the 49th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF), TANESCO Managing Director Mr. Lazaro Twange stated that the main objective of these projects is to promote the use of clean electricity by Tanzanians, particularly for household needs such as cooking. He noted that research indicates the electric stoves provided by the company consume only a single electricity unit per cooking session, which helps reduce consumer costs.
During a ceremony to distribute electric stoves to individuals who answered questions correctly at TANESCO’s pavilion, Mr. Twange emphasized that the initiative aims to encourage the use of electricity instead of charcoal or firewood, in order to protect the environment and improve public health.
Meanwhile, Acting Manager of TANESCO’s subsidiary company ETDCO which oversees electricity transmission and distribution projects, Mr. Sadick Mgendi, said the company has already begun implementing such projects in Tabora and Katavi regions. The goal is to connect these regions to the national grid, thereby unlocking new social and economic opportunities for local residents.

Engineer Mathew Mwangomba, General Manager for Geothermal Power Development, reported that work is progressing at the Ngozi site in Mbeya, where geothermal resources are being harnessed to produce 70 megawatts of electricity. Once completed, the power will be integrated into the national grid to enhance the reliability and availability of energy for Tanzanians.
Overall, TANESCO continues to demonstrate its strong commitment to delivering reliable and affordable electricity services to the public by expanding power generation sources and improving the country’s energy infrastructure nationwide.
