Dr Mwinyi awards Yanga 100m/- for outstanding performance

ZANZIBAR: ZANZIBAR President Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi has awarded Young Africans 100m/- in recognition of the club’s outstanding performance during the 2024/2025 season.
President Mwinyi presented the award today, June 30, 2025 at the Zanzibar State House, where he received Yanga’s delegation comprising club officials and players who had come to present five trophies won this season.
The trophies include the NBC Community Shield, the Toyota Championship Cup, the Union Cup, the NBC Premier League title, and the CRDB Federation Cup.
During the ceremony, Dr. Mwinyi congratulated Yanga for their remarkable success, noting that the club’s victories have enhanced its legacy and significantly contributed to the development of sports in the country.
He also praised Yanga for promoting Zanzibar internationally through the Visit Zanzibar campaign and by hosting matches on the islands.
The President emphasized that Yanga’s decision to play some of its matches in Zanzibar has helped boost the local economy and tourism sector by attracting more visitors and creating economic opportunities for residents. He added that the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar will continue to improve sports infrastructure to facilitate the hosting of more tournaments on the islands.
Meanwhile, the club’s President and Chairman of the African Club Association, Engineer Hersi Said Ali, presented Dr. Mwinyi with a special medal from the CRDB Cup and a championship jersey from the NBC Premier League.

He commended the President’s efforts to enhance sports infrastructure in the country and pledged that Yanga will continue playing matches in Zanzibar to support those efforts.
Yanga made history this season by winning five major trophies a feat widely recognized by football stakeholders as one of the greatest achievements in the club’s history.
