Coast RC calls for increased legal rights awareness

COAST REGION: COAST Regional Commissioner, Mr Abubakar Kunenge, has urged the National Legal Aid Advisory Board to intensify efforts in educating communities about legal rights and procedures to help prevent unnecessary conflicts.

He made the remarks during a meeting with board members held at his office in Kibaha Town earlier this week.

“Providing legal education to the public is essential. It empowers people to understand their rights and responsibilities, actively engage in conflict resolution and avoid unnecessary disputes,” he said.

RC Kunenge also advised the board to strengthen its collaboration with other legal stakeholders, including the Judiciary, to identify areas facing challenges, review policies and laws in need of reform and ensure that justice is delivered ethically and equitably.

For his part, Board Chairperson Saulo Malauli said the tour aimed to gather reports on the implementation of the legal aid campaign in the region through Mama Samia Legal Aid Campaign.

“We will identify areas facing challenges and take appropriate actions to ensure that services reach the targeted individuals in accordance with policies and legal directives,” he said.

In another development, Acting Coast Regional Administrative Secretary (RAS) Mr Nsajigwa George urged non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in the region to conduct their activities with transparency and adhere strictly to guidelines and principles to increase their effectiveness in serving society.

He made the call while opening a one-day meeting for NGOs held in Kibaha Town recently, stressing the need to avoid any actions or reports that could cause chaos, especially as the country prepares for the upcoming general election.

“We are all aware that the general election will be held in October this year. I want to take this opportunity to remind all NGOs in the region to carry out their activities in compliance with our country’s laws.

Do not compromise your missions by becoming involved in political divisions or causing confusion, especially at this sensitive time. The government’s intention has always been and will remain, to work closely with you to protect peace and promote development for the people,” he said.
