WTA to brighten Dar with 50-award categories

DODOMA: TANZANIA is set to host the 2025 World Travel Awards (WTA) Africa and Indian Ocean Gala Ceremony, a prestigious international event set for Saturday, June 28, in the city of Dar es Salaam.

The country will also be in the spotlight as it competes in 50 award categories.

The announcement was made by the Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Dr Pindi Chana, who described the upcoming ceremony as a landmark opportunity that reflects Tanzania’s rising profile on the global tourism map.

“This event is a significant endorsement of Tanzania’s position as a world-class travel destination,” said Dr. Chana.

The World Travel Awards, launched in 1993 in the United Kingdom under the World Luxury Media Group, have been held annually for 32 consecutive years with the goal of recognizing excellence in global tourism and hospitality services.

“Tanzania began participating in 2013, winning its first award that year for Africa’s Leading Tourist Attraction, Mount Kilimanjaro. We’ve continued to participate annually, and in 2024, we won five awards,” she added.

Dr. Chana credited the country’s continued success to deliberate efforts by President Samia Suluhu Hassan to promote tourism globally through initiatives such as the Royal Tour documentary and the Amazing Tanzania campaign.

She said more than 250 delegates from across Africa and the Indian Ocean region including industry leaders, investors, international media, and service providers, have confirmed their participation.

“This is a historic opportunity for Tanzania. We urge citizens to take pride in this achievement and thank President Samia for the visionary leadership that has elevated Tanzania as a leading tourism destination,” she said.

The World Travel Awards serve as a global platform for recognizing outstanding performance in the travel and tourism industry and play a vital role in promoting destination visibility, investment, and competitiveness.
