42 Tanzanians stranded in Israel arrive home today

DODOMA: OVER 42 Tanzanians who had been stranded in Israel due to ongoing conflict in the region are expected to return home today aboard an Ethiopian Airlines flight, the government has announced.

A statement issued on Wednesday by the Government Communication Unit said the returnees will arrive in two groups following logistical arrangements facilitated by Tanzanian authorities.

“The first group is scheduled to land at Abeid Amani Karume International Airport in Unguja at 12:55 PM, while the second will arrive at Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam at 5:55 PM,” the statement read.

The operation follows directives issued by President Samia Suluhu Hassan, aimed at ensuring the safety and repatriation of Tanzanian citizens caught in the ongoing hostilities between Israel and Iran.

According to the statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, in collaboration with Tanzanian embassies in Israel and Egypt, coordinated the evacuation efforts.

The government also assured the public that it will continue to monitor the situation and facilitate the safe return of all Tanzanians stranded in the affected areas.

Currently, Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, confirmed that no Tanzanian nationals in either Israel or Iran have been injured or killed since the conflict erupted on June 13.

According to ministry records, approximately 168 Tanzanians are currently in Iran, 134 of them students in the city of Qom and 34 in Tehran.

In Israel, there are over 200 Tanzanians, including embassy staff, students, and professionals working in various institutions.

In 20, June, 2025, 50 individuals in Israel were reported registered for government-assisted repatriation.
