Tanzania eyes Commonwealth Billiards glory

DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA is poised to make a powerful impression at the upcoming Commonwealth Billiards Championships, scheduled from 2nd to 6th July in Mauritius.

Four of the nation’s finest cue sport athletes will proudly represent Tanzania on this prestigious international stage.

This annual championship, held under the auspices of the Commonwealth Games Federation, unites elite billiards and pool players from across member states, offering a dynamic blend of competitive spirit and cultural exchange.

The Tanzanian team features Abdallah Hussein, Mkubwa Dotto, Cecilia Pendael and Judith Machafuko. They earned their spots through a rigorous qualification process and are currently undergoing intensive training led by national head coach Denis Lungu, sharpening their skills and strategy ahead of the tournament.

Speaking recently, Abdallah Omar, Secretary General of the Tanzania Pool Association (TAPA), expressed strong confidence in the team’s preparations.

“The players are in excellent form, physically fit and fully focused on the challenge ahead. Morale is high and we are confident they will compete with determination and professionalism,” Omar said.

He further added that “All arrangements have been completed well in advance to ensure our athletes travel comfortably and compete under the best possible conditions. We have worked hard to provide full support throughout the competition.”

Omar also emphasised the significance of this event for Tanzania’s evolving cue sports scene, “This championship marks another important milestone in Tanzania’s growing presence on the international billiards stage. The nation has invested heavily in developing talent and fostering competitive excellence and our players are gaining increasing recognition for their skill and sportsmanship.”

He added that the tournament will be a vital test of the team’s ability to elevate Tanzania’s reputation in the global billiards community.
