6 shocking things you probably forgot happened in 2022

THE year 2022 has been a year with so many events around the world. Tanzania, like in many other countries, the year was full of both the sad and joyful events that gripped the hearts and emotions of most of its citizens.

In a nutshell, here are the most fatal incidents that will go into the book of 2022 as most shocking and perhaps hurt the most between January and December.

PRECISION AIR CRASH

The most striking, latest and sad incident to happen in 2022 which was actually a global news, was the Tanzanian passenger plane ‘Precision Air’ that crashed into Lake Victoria in the lakeside town of Bukoba on the 6th of November claiming 19 lives, leaving 24 survivors of all the 43 people on board.

Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority (TCAA) said the incident was caused by bad weather. Prime Minister, Kassim Majaliwa lead mourners in a special mass funeral that were held at the Kaitaba Stadium in Bukoba on November 7, 2022

DEATH OF SIX JOURNALISTS

Another touching incident which was a sad moment especially to Media practitioners is that of fourteen people, among them six journalists, being killed with several others injured in a car on tour with Mwanza Regional Commissioner, Robert Gabriel, crashed with a PSV at Nyamikola in Busega district, Simiyu province.

The tragedy that took place on the 10th of January was confirmed by the Busega’s District Commissioner Garbriel Zakaria naming the deceased as Johari Saan, Husna Mlanzi from ITV, Van Charles from Icon TV and Abel Ngapemba who is a Regional communication officer.

Others were Anthony Chuwa from Daily News Digital, Steven Msengi, Ukerewe Communications officer and Paul Silanga who was the driver.

DEATH OF 11 PUPILS

An accident that left parents in misery and cut short the future generation of the country is yet another sad story to be told in 2022 after eleven children and two adults suspected to be a teacher and their driver died in an early morning accident in Mikindani, Mtwara.

The van that belonged to a school known as King David Primary School in Mikindani veered off the road and plunged into a ridge leaving several children dead and injured.

MAN SHOTS WIFE AND COMMIT SUICIDE

Well, apart from death tolls caused by accidents, the year 2022 has made a history of its own by having many incidents of murder and suicide caused by relationship affairs.

In May, a man from Mwanza named Said Oswayo, 32 shot his wife, Swalha Salum, 28 to death and later on committed suicide.

The couples got married on the 31st of December 2021 making the marriage to mark five months of lasting before issues related to jealousy cut short the love story.

AMBASSADORS DEATH

December 15, 2022 a Tanzanian envoy to Austria Celestine Mushi died in a car crash at Mkata area, Handeni District, Tanga Region.

The Amb was traveling from Dar es Salaam to Kilimanjaro region when the accident occurred.

Mushi was also a permanent representative of Tanzania to other international organizations in Vienna, Austria.

COUPLES DEATH IN AN ACCIDENT

However, the latest sad news was that of a couple, Grayson Ngogo (48) and his wife Janet Luvanda (43) who died in a car accident in Iyovi, Morogoro on December 26 coming from a funeral in Dar es Salaam.

Grayson was a Vice Principal of St Agrey Mbeya College of Education and Janet who was a teacher at Legico Secondary School in Mbeya; they were both students at the Open University of Tanzania (OUT).

The deceased have left two girls and a boy making a total of three children.
