32nd Tanzania Book Fair attracts multinational exhibitors

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Tanzania Library Services Board (TLSB) said the 32nd National Book Fair of Tanzania will be held from November 21 to 26 at its headquarters in Dar es Salaam, drawing exhibitors from seven nations.
The Fair, whose aim is to encourage the public to embrace a culture of reading to enhance knowledge, also aims to preserve the nation’s history.
Speaking today, TLSB Director General Dr. Mboni Ruzegea said the exhibition aims to showcase the richness of Tanzanian literature, culture, arts, history, and knowledge, as well as promote creative works by local authors. She added that the event also seeks to encourage reading as a foundation for knowledge and critical thinking, and to bring together stakeholders in education, culture, and publishing to develop strategies that promote reading and knowledge preservation in the country.

Dr Ruzegea said the exhibition presents an opportunity for both the public and the government to learn and reaffirm that the process of disseminating knowledge in the country is progressing.
The Chairperson of the Tanzania Publishers Association (PATA), Hermes Damian, said the event will help showcase to the world the work being done in the country and broaden public understanding through books. He stated that participating countries will include Kenya, Malawi, France, Canada, Sweden, and Iran.
This year’s exhibition is themed: “Books are a Repository of Knowledge and Culture.”
