MTWARA: At least 23 people, including 20 pupils, sustained injuries on Thursday night when a Salem Primary School bus collided with a Tanzania People’s Defence Force (TPDF) vehicle at Migomigo, Mikindani, in Mtwara Region.
Mtwara Regional Police Commissioner, SAPC Issa Suleiman, confirmed the accident, noting that investigations are still underway.
The regional police chief said the injured—20 pupils, two teachers, and a driver—was returning from a study tour at the regional airport.
On her part, the Chief Medical Officer of Ligula Regional Referral Hospital in Mtwara, Dr. Zawadi Bwanali, confirmed receiving the 23 injured individuals.

Dr Zawadi elaborated that the hospital received the injured at 7 p.m., and they were immediately treated.
Some, who sustained minor injuries, have been discharged, while others remain admitted to the facility.
One student, Dr Zawadi added, has been referred to the Southern Zone Regional Referral Hospital for further treatment.
“Things are going well, and the injured are still receiving treatment. Most of them have already been examined and discharged, as their injuries were not severe,” she noted.
