17-year Mrema commands Junior Div run at Diplomatic golf tour

ARUSHA: THE son of the former Arusha-Urban MP,  Felix Mrema was among the brilliant performers of the Diplomatic Golf tournament held at Kiligolf Club course over the weekend.

Aged 17 yaars, Felix Mrema  was among the winners of the recently held 7th Diplomatic Charity Golf Tournament held in Arusha.

A member of Gymkhana Golf Club, Mrema won the Junior division title after posting  35 stable ford points in the  18-hole event.

“I started playing golf when I was  eight years old,” said Felix, adding that he will work hard to ensure that he becomes a world champion in the future.

His mother, Cosma Mrema, also admits to having been helping and encouraging young Felix to play the sport, adding that the teenager also won during the previous Diplomatic Golf tourney last year.

Meanwhile, Nathalia Isaya and William Loderer were the team winners in the just- concluded Seventh edition of the annual charitable International Diplomatic Golf Tournament held in Arusha.

Amassing a total of 46 stableford  points each, the winners were awarded three days and two nights stay at the Dafina Residence in addition to full day game drive safaris at either Tarangire National Park or Serval Area in Kilimanjaro.

The two-day International Diplomatic Charitable Golf Tour, held over the weekend, was organized by the Songea Mississippi Foundation (SOMI) in partnership with Kiligolf and attracted over 80 individual players and 40 teams from various countries.

Reinafrida Rwezaura, the event coordinator, from the Songea Mississippi Foundation said this year’s tournament aimed at raising 50m/- to support nearly 45 disadvantaged children in a number of educational programs across Tanzania.

“We have so far presented a cheque of 45 million/- to the beneficiaries in Ruvuma Region, this being funds from sponsors and players,” said Ms Rwezaura.

The 7th International Diplomatic Golf was also supported by NMB Bank which donated sports gear valued at over 5 million/-.

  The Diplomatic Golf Charity Tournament was held at Kilimanjaro Golf (Kiligolf) and Wildlife Estate located on the base of Mount Meru.

The Member of Parliament for Songea Urban, in Ruvuma, Damas Ndumbaro, who founded the golf tourney, said the foundation has so far assisted more than 100 children some of whom have completed higher education.

“At the moment we have 43 other needy children and support them all it will take at least 126m/- but the 45m/- raised today will help reduce the burden,” Ndumbaro stated.
