17 teams light up the 2025 Dar Leopards rugby tour

DAR ES SALAAM: THE stage is set for the 2025 Dar Leopards Annual Touch Rugby Tournament, a highly thrilling rugby showdown to be supported by social sporting events.
Ahead of its take off this weekend at Dar es Salaam ground, the success of this event has been masterminded by a hefty backing of sponsors and the entire rugby fraternity.
The Dar Gymkhana cricket oval will tell a lot on September 13 with a full day of competitive rugby, family-friendly entertainment, and vibrant community engagement.
Dar Leopards Club Chairman Gustav Mhusu confirmed that preparations are in full swing.
“We’re ready to take Dar by storm,” Mhusu told the ‘Daily News Digital’ in Dar es Salaam today, September 12, 2025.
“This tournament wouldn’t be possible without the support of our sponsors.”

The main sponsors of this year’s event are Southern Sun Hotel, The Wine & Cheese Shop, and Kifaru Motors. Thanks to them for the tireless support.
He named the co-sponsors, including Himoinsa Generator, Donta Safari, Olea East Africa Insurance Solutions, and the C. Steinweg Group.
Supporting partners range from local favourites like The Slow Leopard, Painted Dog Craft Gin, and Burger53, to corporate names such as GardaWorld, TBL, Pepsi, and Bagamoyo Salt.
“The event is not just about rugby,” Mhusu noted. “It’s a celebration of community, inclusivity, and youth development across the region.”
This year, the tournament will host over 17 teams from across Tanzania and neighbouring Kenya, with a strong emphasis on grassroots participation.

Thanks to the support of the French Embassy in Dar es Salaam, several youth and development teams will be able to travel and compete, gaining valuable exposure and experience.
Defending champions Arusha Rhinos are expected to face tough competition from both new entrants and returning teams hungry for the title.
The event also promises something for everyone. A dedicated Kids Zone will feature bouncy castles, rugby-themed games, and even adoptable puppies from local animal welfare group Every Living Thing, making the tournament a fun day out for families.
“It’s more than just a rugby tournament. It’s a full-day celebration of sport, community, and culture. And best of all – entry is free,” Mhusu said.
The festivities will kick off with a pre-party on Friday, September 12, at The Slow Leopard, followed by the official after-party at Santorini Garden, themed “Leis & Leopards.” Guests are encouraged to embrace the tropical vibe with vibrant, island-inspired attire.
