150 golfers set for Lugalo showdown

DAR ES SALAAM: OVER 150 golfers will feature in the KCB Bank Lugalo Golf Tournament today at Lugalo Golf Club.

This event is part of the qualifying series for the KCB East Africa Golf Tour 2025, which includes leaders from mini-tournaments in Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi.

The Lugalo leg will select four players to represent Tanzania at the grand finals in Nairobi, Kenya, scheduled for December. The course is managed by the Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF) and overseen by Lugalo Golf Club Chairman Major General Wilbert Ibuge.

The Club Manager, David Mzirai, confirmed that all preparations for the tournament are complete and expressed gratitude to KCB Bank for its on-going support. “We have prepared the course well and expect all participants to enjoy the competition,” Mzirai stated.

The Lugalo Captain Japhet Masai confirmed high interest in the event, reporting over 150 golfers including juniors had been registered by yesterday.

Ahead of the competition the Group Business Director and Managing Director of KCB Bank, Gabriel Lekundayo, underscored that the bank will take responsibility with travel, accommodation and meals for the four players who will feature in the grand finale in Kenya.

“Last year was our debut and the event exceeded expectations. This year, we aim even higher. The Bank recognises that sports contribute to health and employment. As a key stakeholder, we see these tournaments as part of our contribution to the community,” Lekundayo said.

The top four performers at the Lugalo event will qualify for regional finals, competing against finalists from other participating countries. The overall winner will receive a cash prize of 20m/-.
