12,8bn/- Lamadi water project benefits 85,000 in Simiyu

SIMIYU: PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has inaugurated the Lamadi Water Project in Busega District, Simiyu Region, a 12.8bn/- initiative set to benefit over 85,000 residents.
Speaking during the launch, President Samia reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving family welfare and accelerating development by ensuring the availability of key social services across the country.
The President made the remarks as she concluded her tour in Simiyu Region.
She urged citizens to maintain peace and stability, stressing that these are essential pillars for sustainable development.
“I call on you to work hard so we can increase production, raise more revenue, boost development, and position Tanzania as a self-reliant nation,” she added.

On his part, Minister for Water Jumaa Aweso noted that access to clean and safe water in the area was previously at just 23 percent.

However, following the implementation of the project, coverage has surged to 79.7 percent, well above the government’s initial targets.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Water, Engineer Mwajuma Waziri, said the entire project covering Lamadi, Magu, and Msimbwi towns costs 43bn/-.
She added that the Lamadi component alone cost 12.8bn/- and involved the construction of key water infrastructure, drawing water directly from Lake Victoria.
The system can produce 4 million litres of clean water per day, supplying 85,000 residents.
