Simba to name coach soon

DAR ES SALAAM: SIMBA SC confirmed that the search for a new head coach to replace former South African tactician Fadlu Davids is in final stages, with an official announcement expected in the few coming days.

Davids, who formally parted ways with the Msimbazi Reds in late last month, left to take up a new role with Moroccan giants Raja Club Athletic.

His departure left a crucial vacancy at the helm, especially with the 2025/26 season Mainland Premier League and continental competitions fast approaching.

According to Simba SC’s Communication and Information Manager, Ahmed Ally, the technical committee charged with identifying Davids’ successor is putting the finishing touches on the recruitment process.

“The committee tasked with selecting the new head coach is close to completing its work and it is likely that the announcement will be made before our CAF Champions League fixture against Nsingizini of Eswatini,” said Ally in Dar es Salaam yesterday.

However, Ally refrained from naming any shortlisted candidates, citing that the committee had not yet disclosed those details to him.

Nonetheless, he affirmed that the recruitment process is nearing completion and fans should expect official confirmation soon.

Given the club’s tight calendar, the incoming coach will be expected to take immediate charge and steer the squad in both domestic and continental competitions with minimal transition time.

As such, the ideal candidate must be able to adapt swiftly, command authority and operate under intense pressure. Several high-profile names have been linked with the Simba job.

Among them is Benni McCarthy, the current Head Coach of Kenya’s national team, Harambee Stars. McCarthy’s experience and pedigree in African football have made him a strong contender.

Another frontrunner is Tunisian coach Nasreddine Nabi, who left South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs just last month.

Nabi, who previously coached Simba’s archrivals, Young Africans, is believed to be in Dar es Salaam, fuelling speculation about his potential return to Tanzanian football.

Still, the final decision will hinge on several factors, including contract negotiations, availability, vision alignment and the ability to meet the club’s immediate and long-term ambitions.

In related developments, Simba SC announced the appointment of Nsanganzelu Elieneza Nicolaus as the new Head Coach of Simba Queens, ahead of the 2025/26 Women’s Premier League season.

Nicolaus, a seasoned coach with extensive experience across various national team roles, steps into the role with high expectations.

His arrival signals a fresh chapter for the women’s side, as they aim to reclaim the league title after finishing runners-up in the 2024/25 campaign.

He replaced Ghanaian tactician Yusif Basigi, who led Simba Queens to second place during his one-year tenure.

The club’s management expressed full confidence in Nicolaus’ ability to bring renewed energy and tactical sharpness to the team, reinforcing Simba Queens’ legacy as one of the powerhouses in women’s football in the region.
