Motorsports family lauds Moil Team for winning African Rally title

MOROGORO: THE Uganda-based Tanzanian, Yassin Nasser, and his Ugandan navigator, Ally Katumba, are the 2025 African Rally champions despite finishing third in the Mkwawa Rally of Tanzania, the fifth and final round of this year’s African Rally Championship series.

The Tanzanian wheeler had to hold on his nerves to finish third in ARC category behind his clolsest title challenger, Samman Vohra, and the event’s winner, Karan Patel both from Kenya.

Yassin and Katumba won the African Rally Championship after collecting 133 points, while Vohra, who finished second behind Patel, ended his campaign with 130 points.

Patel, who won the just ended fifth round, finished with 70 points.

Motorsports in Tanzania and Uganda lauded the Moil team crew for their career achievement.

“Big Congratulations for you, winning the African title for the first time,” said David Matete from Ampiano Team.

“Congratulations, team Moil, it wasn’t easy, but you fought tooth and nail to make it,” echoed.

From Norway, Bob Frank Taylor said: “Congrats Yassin and team it was a close battle.”

‘What close fight, congratulations Moil team,” wrote Awadh Bafadhil on the Rally TZ website page.

The action-packed Mkwawa Rally OF Tanzania witnessed the best performance from Ahmed Huwel’s Toyota RS Yaris.

Huwel performed well with his ultra-fast machine and managed to clinch the third position after clocking 7 hours and  31 minutes.

The last season’s defending champion, Karan Patel, finished the overall winner of the Mkwawa Rally after clocking the fastest time of 7 hours 13 minutes and 7 seconds, beating the second-placed Samman Vohra by over 8 minutes. Vohra clocked  7 hours, 21 minutes and 9 seconds.

Third-placed Ahmed Huwel spent 7 hours, 31 minutes, and 0 seconds ahead of Yassin Nasser and his co-driver, Ally Katumba in a Ford Fiesta R5.

Fifth overall was Naveen Puligilla, who clocked 8:11;01 as sixth-positioned Samir Nahdi Shanto clocked  8:11:01. Shanto was navigated by Maisam  Fazal in Ford Fiesta Proto.

Seventh overall was  Prince Charles Nyerere who spent 8:11:01 ahead of Burundian Mohamed Roshanali who clocked 8:20:09. The ninth position went Shehzad Munge of Dar es Salaam who clocked 8:27:00.
