Chatanda praises political maturity in Geita

GEITA: CHAIRPERSON of the Women’s Wing of Chama Cha Mapinduzi (UWT), Mary Chatanda, has commended the spirit of political maturity and unity demonstrated in Geita Region, saying it reflects the strength and discipline of the ruling party ahead of the forthcoming general election.

Ms Chatanda made the remarks recently while officially launching CCM’s election campaigns in the Geita Urban constituency.

She said she was deeply encouraged by the cooperation shown by party members, particularly those who had contested in the preliminary stages but were not nominated.

She highlighted examples of key aspirants who accepted the outcome with dignity and chose to rally behind the nominated candidate, including Robert Gabriel, the former Geita Regional Commissioner and Constantine Kanyasu, former Member of Parliament for Geita Urban.

According to Chatanda, their decision to put aside personal ambitions and support the party’s choice was a clear indication of political maturity and an act of professionalism that should be emulated across the country.

“They have demonstrated that once CCM has nominated a candidate, what the people are voting for is not an individual but the Chama Cha Mapinduzi itself,” she emphasised, urging members to put the party’s interests first.

Ms Chatanda further called upon residents of Geita to continue placing their trust in CCM and its leadership, stressing that under President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan, Tanzania remains safe and firmly on a path of progress.

She also encouraged voters to support CCM’s parliamentary and councillorship candidates, noting that unity at all levels of leadership is crucial for sustaining development.

Earlier, former Geita Urban MP Mr Kinyasu also appealed for calm and confidence among voters, assuring them that the CCM-nominated candidate poses no threat but rather an opportunity for continued growth.

He said that during his tenure he had worked tirelessly for the people of Geita and was now ready to support Mr Chacha Wambura, who he described as capable and well-prepared to carry forward the region’s development agenda.

For his part, Mr Wambura, CCM’s parliamentary candidate for Geita Urban, pledged to bring transformative changes to the constituency. He said his priorities include improving transport infrastructure, supporting local business growth and strengthening social services.

He outlined ambitious plans to lobby for the establishment of a university in Geita, expand major roads, and increase the tarmac road network to ease mobility. “We are going to ensure the people of Geita Urban have access to quality health services by building new health centres, renovating existing ones and recruiting enough health workers to meet the growing demand,” he said.

The campaign launch in Geita drew large crowds and was marked by a strong show of unity, with CCM leaders at both national and regional levels urging voters to safeguard peace and rally behind the party’s agenda for continued prosperity.
