CDF urges early preps for international military games

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Chief of Defence Forces, General Jacob Mkunda, has urged Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF) leaders, coaches and athletes to shake off complacency and jumpstart intense preparations ahead of the East African Community Military Games and the prestigious CISM World Games.
Addressing attendees at the closing ceremony of the recent CDF Cup Tournament held at the Azam Complex in Chamazi, Dar es Salaam, General Mkunda emphasised that the tournament was a crucial stepping stone rather than the ultimate goal.
“The CDF Cup fosters unity and camaraderie across our armed forces, by bringing together different military commands to compete in diverse sporting disciplines, it cultivates a spirit of togetherness and teamwork that is vital to our strength,” he stated.
General Mkunda stressed that such unity goes beyond the playing field, stating: “Such cohesion is essential in any military organisation. It enhances coordination and mutual respect among officers and soldiers from varied backgrounds and units.”
He further highlighted the tournament’s role in promoting physical fitness and discipline, fundamental qualities for military personnel.
“Our duties demand endurance, strength and agility. Participation in competitive sports motivates consistent training and physical preparedness, directly boosting the effectiveness and readiness of our forces,” he noted.
The General extended heartfelt congratulations to the tournament winners for their outstanding performances and encouraged all participants to maintain their motivation.

“Every competitor played a vital role in the tournament’s success,” he remarked.
Echoing these sentiments, Major General Ibrahim Muhona, the Chief of Training and Operations (COT), praised participants for the high level of competitiveness displayed throughout the tournament and called for early preparations in future.
“I urge team leaders and coaches to begin early strategic preparations for future competitions,” he said.
“These games serve as a platform to identify exceptional athletes who could advance to national teams and enhance Tanzania’s sporting excellence.”
Major General Muhona also highlighted the tournament’s contribution to broader sports development within Tanzania. “The construction of modern training centres and sports facilities by the military not only strengthens our internal capabilities but also benefits the civilian community,” he explained.
“These shared resources promote inclusive sports growth and provide young talents with opportunities to train, develop and excel.”
The tournament’s conclusion marks not only the celebration of sporting achievements but also a renewed commitment to excellence, unity and the advancement of military and national sports in Tanzania.
