66 Burundians nabbed for staying, working in Tanzania illegally

DAR ES SALAAM: The Dar es Salaam Regional Immigration Department has arrested 66 Burundian nationals for staying and working in Tanzania illegally.

These immigrants were living and working unlawfully in the Kariakoo area, specifically in Jangwani Street within the Ilala District Council, Dar es Salaam city.

The statement was issued today, September 19, 2025, by the Dar es Salaam Regional Immigration Officer, Assistant Senior Commissioner (SACI) Vincent Haule. He explained that the suspects were arrested for entering, residing, and working without valid permits, actions that violate the country’s immigration laws.

SACI Haule added that after the investigations are completed, all suspects are expected to be brought to court to face legal action. He urged all residents in the country to ensure they comply with immigration laws and procedures.

Furthermore, the Immigration Department continues its special operations in various areas of Dar es Salaam city, intending to track down and remove illegal immigrants to safeguard national security and welfare.
