RC orders Arusha City to rely on internal revenue to improve vendors’ markets
ARUSHA: THE Arusha Regional Commissioner, Amos Makalla, has directed the Arusha City Council to use its internally generated revenue to improve the Ulezi and Machame street vendors’ markets so they can be fully utilized by small-scale traders.
Makalla issued the directive today, January 30, 2026, during a visit to the markets.
He also emphasized the need to allocate space for street vendors in the larger Kilombero and Mrombo markets once their construction is completed later this year.
He said the move aims to enable small traders to conduct their businesses in friendly, safe, and productive environments, while also increasing municipal revenue through the payment of taxes and various levies.
